Followers of the blog will know that we have huge respect for those who fight against cancer. We’ve got all the love in the world for Matthew Wade and big support for Yuvi. And it doesn’t stop there, friends of the blog have battled (and survived) cancer. I personally lost my dad to cancer nine years ago. It’s a cause that’s very, very close to my heart.
Naturally, then, when once a year the CANSA Shavathon comes around, I also try to do a little something to raise awareness. Last year, I shaved off all my own hair (down to a number three – with my hair being down on my boobs).
The Shavathons are happening this weekend all around South Africa and, since my hair is still too short to shave again, I’m trying to motivate others to do so.
If you live in South Africa, I dare you to head down to one of the Shavathon Stations and buzz your pip. For every one of my (or the blog’s) Twitter followers who does so, I’ll personally donate R20 (R30 if you are a girl) to CANSA. By shave I mean: a number three or lower, and shaved all off, not buzzed into a funky style.
Tweet your pictures as evidence to @mspr1nt or @maidentweets or email them to editor [@] wicketmaiden.com – we’ll put them all on the blog on Monday along with the amount of money we raised.
PS – if anybody is willing to match my donations to double the amount raised for CANSA, please let me know.
PPS – obviously I am not a millionaire and I might have to cap the amount I donate at some point – but I doubt that I have enough followers in SA or with the balls to shave their heads to have to enforce a cap.
Update: @wendyldonald and @Runningflyhalf will both match donations up to R500.
